My strongest lesson learnt in Ny-Alesund? It is not the urgency that the shocking temperature increase and the melting glaciers show. It is the connectivity and creativity that a small community without easy access to all desired resources and products give. The joy and happiness it brings to feel part of a group, where each role is appreciated and important. A place where there will always be somebody to join that improvised Christmas choir (or photo shoot). Where you will not question the request to water the guitar of a friend as the air is so dry. Where you go together through the dark and the way too bright times. So what about having politicians and CEOs of multinationals locked in a tiny community without the resources they are used to, while presenting some of the shocking climate data accompagnied by a good portion of karaoke, darkness, ice baths, music instruments and a sewing machine? Note: they will be allowed to bring some outfits in their suitcases.
